A Statistical Study of Otitic Complications


Abstract
The incidences of the otitic complications has been rather increased clue to masking effect of antibiotics since the an-tibiotics had been used during past thirty years. The sulfonamides and penicicillin had a profound effect upon the clinical courses of otitis
media and its complications, but the widened use of the antibiotic drugs has been developed the growth of new ¢¥strains of microganisms, and the seriousness of the disease has been surprisingly increased.
A statistical study was done wit!, ¢¥114-10 patients that was diagnosed and treated in several hospitals in Seoul, the following results were obtained.
1. The ratio between males and females was 2 : 1.
2. Age distribution showed predilection for age of 10-19 with 73 cases. 3. The duration of otorrea was over 5 years in 99 cases.
4. The proteus group was found in 31 cases and next the pseudomonas and staphylococcus was cultured in each 11 cases.
5. Cholesteatoma was found in 79 cases(56.2%).
6. The mortality rate was 14.3%
